The DVBViewer's author makes every effort to perpetually optimise the program, make it more compatible and to remove bugs, although it is hardly possible to adapt the DVBViewer to each environment. The DVBViewer has to rely on a multiplicity of soft- and hardware components, beginning with the LNB over to the to various system components built into your PC, such as graphics cards, network cards, drivers, filters etc., and the number of possible interactions in a Windows PC is almost infinite.

Since DVBViewer is working properly for most users - apart from smaller indispositions - it is very likely that serious problems are not related to the DVBViewer. This chapter will help you to determine the cause and solve the problem. The first two sections of this chapter contain general notes about troubleshooting. The last section provides a collection of known issues and their solution.

In the Correct Order

In case of problems try to follow the steps listed in this section:

  • First of all: Keep calm! With haste you may only worsen the damage or problem.

  • The first step is to identify the problem. The next section supplies a catalogue of questions which you should study in particular when you encounter distorted or none reception.

  • Then check-up the list of well-known problems in the section after the next. Determine if one of the descriptions (and thus perhaps the solution) applies in your case.

  • If nothing applies you should use the search function of the DVBViewer-forum. Select Search, enter a search item (at least 4 letters), and pay attention to the search options. Make several attempts with different terms; there is a high probability that it is not a new problem and that there's already a solution for it.

  • If your search delivers no results you may ask for assistance in the forum. You should carefully formulate your question, at best take your time and write it off-line first. It must contain information about your system (operating system, processor, filters, drivers, etc.) and you should attach your Setup.xml file (located in the DVBViewer folder) and the DVBViewer.log (located either in your „c:“ root directory or in the DVBViewer folder) to your posting. These contain all the settings and might be very informative for diagnosis.

  • In order to post questions in the DVBViewer-forum you must be a registered member. Click Register and enter your credentials including a valid e-mail address.

  • Provided you are a registered customer of the pro version you are entitled to e-mail support. If everything fails you may address the DVBViewer's author himself, Christian Hackbart at hackbart@dvbviewer.com. You should use this possibility only for serious problems as a last resort. A programmer who has to answer tons of e-mails every day has no more time to develop or optimise the program further.
